TED MARCY -- Hinsdale Central |
||||||||||||||
A two-time
state champion in the pommel horse in in 1971 and 1972, Marcy may have
dominated in this event than anyone else in gymnastics history. Ted
posted a score of 9.75 at the 1972 high school state finals, which would not
be topped for 23 years. Marcy's expertise on the apparatus carried on
to Stanford University where he was a three-time NCAA champion in 1974, 1975
and 1976. Ted was known for revolutionizing modern swing techniques
and had the moves of the "Marcy Break" and "Marcy Flair" named in his honor.
Numerous experts considered Marcy the greatest pommel horse gymnast of all
time. Marcy was inducted into the Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame.
