DAVE WEHRMEISTER -- Lyons Township |
||||||||||||||
A member of the 1970 IHSA
state championship undefeated basketball team, Wehrmeister would go on to
play professional baseball in Major Leagues. As a high school senior,
Dave helped the Lions to a second-place finish in the West Suburban
Conference baseball standings, and went to play collegiately at Northwest
Missouri State and Truman State University. Wehrmeister was chosen in
the first round -- and third pick overall -- in the 1973 MLB January Draft
by the San Diego Padres. Dave pitched six years in the big leagues
from 1976 to 1985 with the Padres, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies
and Chicago White Sox. Wehrmeister compiled 100 victories overall in
the Major and Minor Leagues in 14 seasons. |
