OWEN BROWN -- Lyons Township |
||||||||||||||
Brown was a two-time
All-State basketball selection in 1970 and 1971, and was a third team Parade
Magazine All-American in 1971. While at Lyons Township, Brown scored
over 1500 points and led the Lions to victory in 77 of 88 games -- including
a perfect 31-0 state championship record in his junior year. Owen
tallied a memorable 24-point, 24-rebound performance in the 1970 state title
game. At the University of Maryland, Brown scored over 1000 points for
the Terrapins and was the co-captain of the 1975 Atlantic Coast Conference
championship team. Brown was drafted in the ninth round of the 1975
NBA Draft, but did not play professionally. In 1976, Owen died during
a pickup basketball game at age 22. Brown was inducted into the
Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame in 1977.
