A two-time All-State
goalkeeper, Lagerwey received all-state honors from the Illinois High School
Soccer Coaches Association in 1988 and 1989. After high school, Garth
moved to Germany for one year, before returning to the United States to play
at Duke University. While with the Blue Devils, Lagerwey set all-time
Duke top-ten season marks for saves (100) and shutouts (8). After
playing in the United Soccer League, Garth was selected by DC United in the
1996 MLS Inaugural Player Draft. Lagerway played in Major League
Soccer for five seasons. In 2007, Garth became the youngest General
Manager in MLS history, guiding Real Salt Lake to an eventual MLS
Championship in 2009. Lagerwey would later serve as President of both
the Seattle Sounders and Atlanta United. |
