LINDA FRENCH -- York |
||||||||||||||
A three-time
singles badminton state champion, French won individual Illinois High School
Association titles in 1977, 1978 and 1980. Linda followed her older
sister Ann, who won the state's first ever two badminton state championships
in 1975 and 1976. Linda finished second in the state meet in 1979 in
the only year she did not win the title. Linda would go on to win 12
national badminton titles; both team and individual collegiate national
titles at the University of Wisconsin and at Arizona State; a silver medal
at the 1991 Pan American Games; and compete in the sport at the 1992 and
1996 Olympic Games. Linda served as Chief Executive Officer and
Secretary General of USA Badminton. Her grandfather helped found the
USAB in the 1930's. |
