As a junior basketball player, Brown became the first player in history to score 50 points in a West Suburban Conference game, doing so in February of 2002. During his senior year Brown was the 2003 Illinois Mr. Basketball, a McDonald's All-American and a first team Parade Magazine All-American. At Michigan State University, Shannon scored 1,183 points in a three-year career, and was named to the All Big Ten second team and the Big Ten All-Defensive Team in 2006. Brown was selected as the 25th pick overall in the 2006 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. In a nine-year NBA career, Shannon played for Cleveland, the Chicago Bulls, Charlotte Bobcats, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks and Miami Heat. Brown averaged 7.6 points per game over 408 NBA contests, and won two NBA titles with the Lakers.
