HAROLD CAFFEY -- Lyons Township |
||||||||||||||
A five-time state champion
in track & field, Caffey finished in first place in the 440 yard dash during
the 1953 and 1954 state finals, and became only the third person in state
meet history to break the 50-second quarter-mile barrier in the event.
Harold was also a member of the three-time state champion one mile relay,
which placed first in the 1952, 1953 and 1954 state meets. That 1953
relay team, which he was a part of, established a national record in the
event, running the four-lap race in 3:21.2. Caffey would continue to
run track at Indiana University and was a three-time Big Ten Champion.
