DOC RIVERS -- Proviso East
 

A three-time All-State basketball standout, Rivers established the all-time single-season West Suburban Conference scoring record in 1979, with 420 points in league play.  In high school, as a member of the Pirates, Doc earned all-state recognition in 1978, 1979 and 1980; and in his senior year was the Illinois Mr. Basketball, a Parade Magazine All-American and a McDonald's All-American.  After playing at Marquette University, Rivers was drafted in the second round of the 1983 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks.  Doc would play 13 seasons as a player in the NBA with Atlanta, the Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs, averaging 10.9 points per game over 864 contests.  Rivers was named to the NBA All-Star Team during the 1987-1988 season.  Doc was a head coach in the NBA for 24 seasons, guiding the Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers and the Philadelphia 76ers.  Rivers was the 1999-2000 NBA Coach of the Year, won a World Championship in 2008, and is only one of ten people to ever win 1,000 games in their NBA coaching career.
