GEORGE BORK -- Arlington |
||||||||||||||
Excelling in multiple
sports in high school, Bork turned down a scholarship offer to play
basketball at the University of Michigan, because he wanted to participate
in both football and basketball at the collegiate level. George would
be a standout athlete at Northern Illinois University from 1960-1963 playing
both sports and becoming a trailblazer in offensive efficiency at
quarterback. Bork became the first person in college football history, at
any level, to throw for over 3,000 yards in a season. During his
junior and senior campaigns at NIU, George broke 20 different passing records.
At the time of his departure from college football, Bork had completed more
passes (534), threw for more yardage (6,782) and passed for more touchdowns
(60) than any other player in college football history. Bork also scored
1,114 points as a guard in basketball and was a two-time NAIA All-American
on the court. George played quarterback with the Montreal Alouettes in
the Canadian Football League from 1964-1967. Bork was inducted into
the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999. |
