ERIC KUMEROW -- Oak Park-River Forest |
||||||||||||||
One of the most decorated
athletes in West Suburban Conference history, Kumerow received All-State
honors in football and basketball while playing for the Huskies. Eric
was the Chicago Sun-Times Player of the Year in 1982 playing quarterback and
defensive back. Kumerow earned Parade Magazine first team All-American
honors, as well as high school All-American recognition from USA Today.
Eric made the All-State Basketball Team and captured MVP honors of the
Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game in 1983. Kumerow
remains as the only player to lead the West Suburban Conference in scoring
in both football and basketball in the same season. At the Ohio State
University, Eric was named the 1986 Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year,
and finished his career with 23 sacks -- the sixth most in school history.
Kumerow was drafted by the Miami Dolphins with the 16th overall pick of the
1988 NFL Draft, and played 42 games in the league from 1988-1990 before
retiring due to injury. Kumerow was chosen to the NBC Sports Chicago
All-Time Football Team in 2012 and was inducted into the Chicago Sports Hall
of Fame. |
