MARIUS BAKKEN -- York |

A foreign exchange student
from Norway, Bakken made the most of his time in the United States, as he
captured state championships in the 1996 IHSA state track meet in both the
1600 and 3200 meters, becoming the first York runner to win the state meet
distance double since 1982. Running on the international racing
circuit, Marius competed in the Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004, and placed
ninth in the 2001 Track & Field World Championships in the 5,000 meter run.
After his competitive running career, Bakken attended the Oslo Medical
School and works as a physician at the Sɸm Medical Center in Norway.
