GEORGE TIDMARSH -- Hinsdale Central |
||||||||||||||
A five-time
state champion at the IHSA state finals, Tidmarsh was one of the most
versatile swimmers in Red Devils history. George won three titles in
the 200-yard individual medley in 1976, 1977 and 1978; captured the 500-yard
freestyle; and was a member of the state champion 400-yard freestyle relay.
During his high school career, Tidmarsh would set three state records and
see Hinsdale Central win four state team titles. As a freshman at the
University of Colorado, George was the Big Eight Conference champion in the
500-yard and 1650-yard freestyle events. One year later, Tidmarsh left
competitive swimming to concentrate on a new passion, as he would receive
his M.D. and Ph.D. from Stanford University, where he worked as a professor
in pediatrics and neonatology. George did return to the pool, setting
a world record in his masters age group in the 1500-meter freestyle at age
45. Tidmarsh was inducted into the Hinsdale Central Hall of Fame in
2010. |
