MIKE SPINELLO -- Arlington |
||||||||||||||
The first golfer to win
back-to-back West Suburban Conference titles, Spinello would go on to become
a lifelong benefactor of the sport. Mike was the WSC individual
champion in 1955 and 1956, and became the first ever golfer to shoot a score
of 70 in the league meet. Spinello helped lead the Cardinals to an
IHSA team state championship in golf in 1956. Mike went on to captain
the golf team at Northern Illinois University. Thanks to his tireless
efforts and dedication to the promotion of the game, Spinello is credited to
have formed the Illinois Junior Golf Association, which became a springboard
for many touring professionals, club managers and thousands who continue to
enjoy their golf experiences from his programs. For his many
contributions, Spinello was inducted into the NIU Athletic Hall of Fame
(1986); the Illinois PGA Hall of Fame (1990); and the Illinois Coaches
Association Golf Hall of Fame (1995). |
