Named the Illinois High
School Baseball Coaches Association Player of the Year for 1995, Gerut would
attend Stanford University, where he was a two-time All-Pac 10 player,
played in the 1997 College World Series, and was a 1998 NCAA All-American.
Jody was drafted in the second round of the 1998 Major League Baseball Draft
by the Colorado Rockies. Gerut made his big league debut in 2003 with
the Cleveland Indians. In his six-year MLB career, Jody played for the
Indians, the Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres and
Milwaukee Brewers. Gerut hit for the cycle with the Brewers in 2010 at
age 32. Gerut batted .296 in 100 games with the Padres in 2008, and
was a .262 lifetime hitter. |
