FRITZ PETERSON -- Arlington |
||||||||||||||
A Major League All-Star pitcher, Peterson won 133 games in the big leagues pitching 11 seasons. Fritz lettered at Northern Illinois University for two years before being chosen by the New York Yankees in the 1963 MLB amateur free agent draft. Peterson posted a 109-106 record with the Yankees, winning 20 games in 1970 and played in that year's All-Star Game. From 1968-1972, Fritz was one of the most successful left-handed pitchers in baseball, allowing the fewest walks per nine innings pitched for five straight seasons. Peterson compiled the lowest earned run average (2.52) of any qualifying pitcher to play in the original Yankee Stadium, that was the home of the Yankees from 1923-2008. Fritz finished his career as a member of the Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers. Peterson was inducted into the Northern Illinois University Hall of Fame in 1987.
