TED CAIAZZA -- Lyons Township |
||||||||||||||
A multiple sport All-State
athlete, Caiazza was a two-time All-State basketball player in 1953 and 1954,
and placed fourth in the shot put and discus at the 1954 state track meet.
Ted earned his lofty reputation on the hardwood by leading the Lions to the
state championship in 1953 in his junior season; and compiling a 66-5 record
over his three-year varsity career, where he amassed 1,704 points scored.
The 1953 Lyons Township basketball team completed a perfect season with a
29-0 record. The six-foot, seven-inch Caiazza set the state tournament
record with 38 points in the title game. Ted would play both sports at
the University of Illinois. Caiazza was named as one of the 100 Best
Illinois High School Basketball Players Ever by the Chicago Tribune in 2017. |
