BEN SHELTON -- Oak Park-River Forest |
||||||||||||||
A
left-handed pitcher-outfielder for OPRF, Shelton played in the Major Leagues
after being one of the the winningest players in Huskies baseball history.
In his high school career, Ben threw three no-hitters, guided his team to a
101-19 record over three years, and helped the Huskies make two appearances
at the IHSA state finals. Shelton was chosen in the second round, and
34th pick overall, of the 1987 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft by
the Pittsburgh Pirates. After being in the Pirates minor league system
for seven years, Shelton was called up to the parent club as a 23-year old
in 1993, where he batted .250 and hit two home runs for Pittsburgh in his
only Major League season. |
