KEN POPEJOY -- Glenbard West |
||||||||||||||
A two-state champion and
an NCAA champion, Popejoy set one of the longest-standing West Suburban
Conference running records that lasted for over half a century. As a
junior, Ken established the conference record of 4:12.7 in the one-mile run,
a mark which would stand for 54 years. As a senior, Popejoy was the
1968 Illinois High School Association cross country individual state
champion, setting the state meet record; and won the mile run at the 1969
state track meet. At Michigan State University, Ken broke the
four-minute barrier in the mile, and was the 1972 NCAA indoor champion in
that event. Popejoy was inducted into the Michigan State Hall of Fame
in 2016 and served as Chief Justice of the 18th Judicial Circuit Court in
Illinois.
