The 1999 IHSA cross
country individual state champion, Sage won four more state titles in the
distance double (1600 and 3200 meter runs) in back-to-back years in 1999 and
2000 at the IHSA state track meet. Donald was named as the Illinois
Gatorade Player of the Year in 1999. At the Prefontaine Classic in
2000, Sage ran the 12th fastest mile run ever by a high school runner, just
missing the four-minute plateau, finishing at 4:00.29. Donald was a
three-time All-American in cross country at Stanford University, helping the
Cardinal to the Division I national title in 2002 and 2003. Sage was a
seven-time NCAA All-American in track and field, and was NCAA champion in
the 1500-meter run in 2002. |
