JIM DUTCHER -- Downers Grove |
||||||||||||||
Elected to the Champaign
News-Gazette All-State Basketball Team in 1951, Dutcher established the new
West Suburban Conference season scoring record of 316 points in 11 games.
Jim became the first player to reach both the 30-point and 40-point
single-game scoring plateaus in WSC competition. Sportswriters were so
enamored to Dutcher's prowess on the court that they frequently referred to
Downers Grove as "Dutcher's Grove" in various publications. Jim would
play at the University of Illinois from 1951-1955, where his teams had a
record of 81 wins and only 17 defeats, and participated in the 1952 Final
Four. Dutcher was a varsity letterwinner for the Trojans while
performing in basketball, football, track and baseball. Dutcher was
elected to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1988. |
