TAYLOR BELL -- Chicago Sun-Times |
||||||||||||||
A media giant in the
newspaper industry for over 50 years, Bell revolutionized the coverage of
high school sports. In 1968 Taylor became prep editor of the Chicago
Daily News, and later the Chicago Sun-Times, becoming one of the top prep
sportswriters in the United States. Bell's daily coverage of high
school sports was second to none across the country, recognizing the talents
of thousands of high school athletes. A tireless traveler and
meticulous worker over six decades, Bell became an expert historian of the
high school scene. Taylor is the author of numerous books including:
"Sweet Charlie, Dike, Cazzie and Bobby Joe: High School Basketball in
Illinois"; "Dusty, Deek and Mr. Do-Right: High School Football in Illinois";
and "Glory Days: Legends of Illinois High School Basketball." Bell was
a charter member of the 1973 induction class of Illinois Basketball Coaches
Association. |
