SAM MARZULO -- Maine

A multiple state championship coach and long-time Athletic Director, Marzulo was a great promoter of athletics  during his 38-year tenure from 1926-1964.  Sam won six West Suburban Conference titles in track and field in 1929, 1931, 1932, 1940, 1942 and 1944.  Marzulo coached two Illinois High School Association state champion track teams in 1941 and 1946, and his 1931 track squad was crowned as the High School National Champions.  Marzulo also had success a the school's swimming coach, as Maine would win five IHSA state titles during the 1930's -- prior to the adoption of the sport being recognized as a WSC-sponsored activity.  Marzulo was elected as a charter member of the Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame; and in 1969, the new pool at Maine East High School was named the Sam C. Marzulo Natatorium.
