HARVEY DICKINSON -- Hinsdale Central |
||||||||||||||
Perfectly balancing both
quality and quantity, Dickinson served the Hinsdale school as a coach and
administrator for 38 years. Harvey was the Red Devils football coach
from 1946 through 1967, winning ten West Suburban Conference championships
(1951, 1953-1956, 1960-1962, 1965, 1967); claiming four Mythical State
Championships (prior to the adoption of the IHSA football playoffs); and
compiling a 138-38-5 win-loss record. The Hinsdale teams of 1951,
1960, 1961, 1962 and 1967 all went through the season unbeaten.
Dickinson was inducted as a charter member of the Illinois High School
Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1977. As Athletic
Director from 1940 through 1978, Hinsdale teams won a collective 216
conference, regional and state championships. Dickinson was named
National High School Athletic Director of the Year in 1977. The
football field at Hinsdale Central is named Harvey Dickinson Field. |
