CLARENCE EAST -- York |
||||||||||||||
A legendary figure of the
early years of the West Suburban Conference, East won two state titles and
eight WSC championships coaching three sports. East won the Illinois
High School Association state track championship in 1936 and 1939, and
captured conference titles on the oval in 1928, 1930, 1934, 1937, 1938 and
1939. Clarence also coached the Dukes football team from 1920 to 1938,
winning a pair of WSC football championships in 1930 and 1932. For
good measure, East also served as the Elmhurst school's head basketball
coach for nine years. Clarence was the York Athletic Director from
1939 to 1954. East was inducted into the Illinois High School Football
Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1987, and the football field at York
High School is named after him. |
