GENE STRODE -- Hinsdale Central
 

The head football coach for the Red Devils for 21 seasons, Strode also served as the school's Athletic Director from 1978 through 1993.  During Gene's tenure as football coach, the Red Devils won 115 games and qualified for the IHSA playoffs in 1974, 1981 and 1986 -- back in the days before the state tournament allowed more to more teams to participate in the post-season.  Strode won five West Suburban Conference championships in 1971, 1974, 1979, 1981, and 1986.  As Athletic Director, Hinsdale Central teams captured 23 Illinois High School Association state championships, and took home 42 IHSA team state trophies. Strode was inducted into the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1989.
