RUSS DEASON -- Lyons Township |

Putting together one of
the most impressive stretches in Illinois high school track and field
history, Deason won five team state titles over a seven year period.
Russ won Illinois High School Association team championships in 1948, 1949,
1952, 1953 and 1954. The Lions placed second in 1951 and finished
fourth in 1950. Deason's teams won eight consecutive West Suburban
Conference track titles from 1948-1955. Under the guidance of Deason,
the Lyons Township Mile Relay established a National Record time of 3:12.2
in 1953. Deason was inducted into the Illinois Track and Cross Country
Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1983. |
