MAX ARMER -- Lyons Township |

A multiple-sport state
champion coach, Armer would win four team state titles, and be inducted into
two sports Halls of Fame. Max's teams won back-to-back Illinois High
School Association state championships in cross country in 1956 and 1957,
and captured IHSA boys track state titles in 1961 and 1973. Armer
claimed seven West Suburban Conference championships in cross country (1946,
1951, 1952, 1953, 1955, 1956, 1957); and nine WSC titles in track & field
(1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1967, 1971, 1972, 1974, 1976). Max was also
the Lions head wrestling coach from 1946-1956 and went on to a lengthy
career as a wrestling official. In 1978, Armer was chosen as a member
of the Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame,
and was selected into the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials
Association as an official that same year. |
