DICK CAMPBELL -- York |
||||||||||||||
Serving two stretches as
boys basketball coach, Campbell led the Dukes from 1961-1967 and again from
1976-1985. Dick's teams won West Suburban Conference titles in 1963,
1966 and 1967. Both his 1962 and 1967 teams qualified for the Illinois
High School Association Elite Eight at the state finals with identical 25-4
win-loss records. Campbell's 1965-66 unit completed a perfect 23-0
regular season, before falling in the regional final. In fifteen years
at York, Dick compiled a 260-134 record, and is the winningest basketball
coach in school history. Campbell was inducted into the Illinois
Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1983. The York High
School Gymnasium was renamed for Campbell in 2010. |
