DICK POND -- Entrepreneur

A former distance runner and track coach at Glenbard West, Pond became one of the most recognizable faces at the West Suburban Conference cross country and track meets.  Originally selling shoes out of his Chevy Malibu, Pond attended more than 60 West Suburban Conference championships from 1970-1991, and turned his business into a household name among the running community.  The family-run business expanded to selling running shoes and apparel out of their garage, and then to a multi-store and online empire.
