DON WATSON -- Hinsdale Central |
||||||||||||||
As boys swimming coach
from 1967 to 1978, Watson
won every West Suburban Conference championship, and captured all 12
Illinois High School Association boys swimming state championships during
that period. No other coach, in any sport, won that many state titles
in succession in state history. With the Red Devils, Watson developed
167 high school All-Americans and four Olympians. In 1970 Watson was
named Coach of the Year by both United States Swimming and the National
Interscholastic Swimming Association. Watson was inducted into the
Illinois Swimming and Diving Association Hall of Fame in 1970. The Don
Watson Aquatics Center at Hinsdale Central was completed and dedicated in
2021. |
