CLARENCE JOHNSON -- Downers Grove North

Serving as Principal of Downers Grove North, Johnson was a pioneer in the promotion of athletics in the early days of the West Suburban Conference.  Johnson was principal for 35 years from 1931 through 1967.  Prior to moving into administration, Clarence coached basketball, football and track at Downers Grove High School in the 1920's.  As principal, Johnson remained as a strong advocate of developing the Downers Grove Athletic Association throughout the years, and building the West Suburban Pioneer League into a premier conference.  The auditorium at Downers Grove North High School is named in his honor.
