COACHES & CONTRIBUTORS HONOR ROLL

CLAIRE RIESSEN -- Hinsdale

Winning four consecutive IHSA team tennis state titles, Riessen captured a dozen West Suburban Conference championships before becoming the head tennis coach at Northwestern University.  Riessen won state titles in 1956, 1957, 1958 and 1959 -- and in each of those years, Claire's son Marty would win the IHSA singles title.  Claire's teams finished second in the state in 1949 and 1955.  Riessen won WSC titles in 1943, 1944, 1945, 1949-1952, 1955-59, and laid the groundwork into turning the Red Devils into a tennis dynasty, as Hinsdale would win 24 team state titles after his departure.  Riessen was inducted into the Illinois High School Tennis Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1986.
