COACHES & CONTRIBUTORS HONOR ROLL

AL CARSTENS -- Maine

In six seasons as head baseball coach at Maine Township High School, Carstens won a pair of IHSA state championships and captured four West Suburban Conference titles.  Al's 1958 and 1959 Blue Demons baseball teams won back-to-back state titles, becoming the only school to do so in the first 70 years of Illinois High School Association history.  Carstens won four straight WSC titles from 1957-1960, before leaving to pilot the baseball program at Maine West, where he would be head coach for 25 years, and win a third state championship. Carstens was inducted into the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1978.
