WSC-100 RIVALRIES:
THE OLD OAKEN BUCKET

The annual football game between Downers Grove North and Hinsdale Central is highlighted by an intense competition for the "Old Oaken Bucket", a trophy made in the manual training room at Hinsdale High. The bucket is made of wood and bound with copper strips.  It has had the results of each game marked on it every year dating back to the days when each school's heavyweight teams would play for the trophy.  The bucket remains in the possession of the winning team each year.  Considering the closeness of the communities and the fact that both schools were charter members of the West Suburban Conference, this annual contest makes for a great rivalry.  Through the 2022 football season, Hinsdale holds a 52-32-3 advantage in the series, dating back to the first "Bucket Game" in 1935 -- a 18-0 victory for Downers Grove.
